Obviously, this new thread to the Russia story is just continuing to develop as I write this. Donny Jr. has just released his email thread relating to his meeting with the Russian attorney, and with Kushner and Manafort, back in June of 2016. Why my goodness, how forthcoming of Junior to release those emails on his own. He must not be concerned about any of the content, right? Oh wait. If he didn’t do it, the New York Times would have because they have those emails too. I guess that puts a bit of a different light on Junior’s willingness to release those emails.
There is a delicious irony to the fact that it appears emails in the Trump campaign are beginning to become a significant issue for them … and have become so without there having to be any apparent hacking.
Even before this, Trump supporters in the conservative media and among Congress, have been trying to change the narrative of this almost with the expectation that collusion would soon be evident. Now their narrative seems to be that instead of “There absolutely was no collusion” to “Well, everybody does opposition research and this is not collusion – it is simply a logical extension of the Trump campaign’s efforts to dig up dirt on their opponent.”
I don’t expect, nor should anyone else, that hardcore Trump supporters will be in any way deterred in their continuing fervor for their champion. The old adage, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting to get different results” is clearly in play for those who have not drunk the Trump Kool-Aid.
Expecting the core level of Trump supporters to change in any way, regardless of what is presented to them, is clearly insanity. Let’s move on from that. The focus has to be the Republican members of Congress. Their support of Trump is based solely on their perception that it is in their personal best interests. That has to be clearly, unequivocally demonstrated not to be true.
I think that there is a real possibility that the Trump core may be a continuing element in our electorate for some time to come. Even if/when the Donald is impeached, whether successfully or not, supporters will continue to fly their collective middle fingers in the face of reality and particularly in the face of those whom they see as having prevented their man from doing what he was elected to do.
Let them whine away. It is my fervent hope that their presence as any remaining kind of political force will be marginalized more and more as time passes.
