Quick Quips: Assault Weapons Ban? You must be joking.

Republicans are already beginning to back off of even that tepid, meaningless by itself, ‘Red Flag” law.  The NRA is clearly against even that.

My guess is the only way Trump will ever really consider any type of gun control action at all will be if Mar-a-Lago, or one of his other properties, is victimized by a mass shooting.  Even then, I’d put the odds at no better than 50/50.

The single action that actually might have been able to prevent, or at the very least delay, the recent mass killings in El Paso and Dayton is an immediate ban on all assault weapons and those multi-ammunition magazines for both assault weapons and hand guns.

But banning the manufacture, sale and ownership of assault weapons is an absolute pipe dream unless the Democrats keep the House and recapture both the Presidency and the Senate in 2020.

Here’s hoping that at the very least, the recent mass shootings make it clear to all of the Democratic candidates that real, meaningful assault weapons control must be front and center of all of their agendas as President.
