151 – WHAT DID THEY EXPECT??

How many times in history will this be repeated before someone, ANYONE, finally figures out that this will be the result?

When you sell your soul to the devil, eventually, the devil will ask his due.

The difference in Kevin McCarthy’s case is that he has had to sell his soul to multiple devils in order to achieve his grand ambition – Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Well, there may be some immediate gratification, but the devil WILL get his due.  In McCarthy’s case, the “due” just has come about more quickly than he anticipated.  He may now likely not even get that for which he sold his soul multiple times in the first place.

As I write this, the 11h vote for Speaker has now failed once again to elect a new Republican Speaker of the House of Representatives.  I certainly don’t see any quick end to this.  Even if/when McCarthy finally admits the inevitable – that he will have to move his belongings out of the Speaker’s office – I don’t see anyone soon getting the support of both the people who currently want McCarthy, and those few who do not want him under any circumstances.  I will henceforth refer to that group of 20 as the Alt-Right.

All of the concessions that McCarthy has given to the Alt-Right, will very likely not be agreed to by any other candidate who may emerge.  If they do, they will not likely get the support of those 200 or so who still support McCarthy.

I wonder if there actually is now a possibility that the Republicans will eventually have no other option than to look to the Democratic minority to work with them to elect a Speaker? A pipe dream?  Yeah, probably.  But maybe, just maybe, this is a result that will make at least some of the shitstorm we have put up with over the past six years at least somehow to have been worth it.

But at least in the meantime …
